Wild Kingdom

I wish I could have captured this one photographically but it started sprinkling and I didn't want the camera to get wet. While mowing I saw a 4 foot long corn snake slithering around in the back yard. I stopped mowing for a few minutes and sat a couple of feet away from it. We checked each other out and then it was time to get back to mowing.

He was a lucky snake not to get caught in the mower!

Naw, he was very mild natured. I could have picked him up but I didn't want to scare him. He actually seemed curious about me rather than wary. My wife saw him sunning in the back yard once but this is the first time I've seen him. Corn snakes are among the best tempered of all snakes so I am much more afraid of hitting him with the mower than I am of him attacking me. I will have to watch carefully for him when I mow.
